How to Build or Establish Credit

This session explores removing negatives from credit reports, readiness for a new credit line, and building a positive credit history.

This facilitator guide includes:

  • Materials needed for the session.
  • Follow-along facilitator instructions and speaking prompts.
  • 1-3 discussion questions with sample answers in each section (12 total).
  • Instructions for leading a small group activity regarding how to define the most suitable credit-building strategy depending on one’s financial situation.
  • A worksheet for participants to complete during the activity with information about people with different financial situations, including space for participants to write down their ideas about which credit-building strategies could help these people build their credit scores.
  • 10 session summary discussion questions and an answer key for the instructor to summarize the key takeaways at the end of the session.
  • An optional worksheet for the participants to answer wrap-up discussion questions in a written form.
